Joining forces within the FHF and its FHF cancer committee, public hospital stakeholders are actively engaged in the care of cancer patients, research and teaching 
Beyond their strategic reflexions, the challenge is to involve these stakeholders in a comprehensive, high-quality approach to care for everyone nationwide
Three objectives inform our vision of cancer control:

• Promoting high-quality care throughout the nation: We are constantly considering ways to improve the quality of life and care;
• Guaranteeing universal access to care: geographical, temporal and economic access; in particular, access for the most vulnerable groups (elderly and disadvantaged patients, etc.);
• Constructing pathways and a territorial approach to guarantee proximity and expertise: attention must be paid to organising comprehensive care pathways nationwide in order to offer patients comprehensive care.

• Cancer control requires the involvement of everyone at the European level, thereby contributing to the European Health Union. Even if health care remains a competence of the Member States, a united front is required at the European level to enable collective progress to be made. From prevention and improving patients’ quality of life, to medical care and research, Europe provides significant added value, and the recent European «Beating Cancer Plan» highlights the determination to build capacities together.
• It is essential for the FHF to participate and be a stakeholder in the activities carried out at European level. In particular, the development of Comprehensive Cancer Centres should help to address the major challenges in cancer patient care, and especially the provision of accessible care at the regional level, favouring integrated-pathway-based approaches that enable each patient to benefit from the expertise of the referral system and the local provision of care

THE PUBLIC SECTOR IS THE KEY PLAYER IN CANCER CARE PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS ARE THE MOST ACTIVE IN ONCOLOGY AND COVER THE WIDEST RANGE OF ACTIVITIES IN ALL AREAS:

• Carrying out the highest number of hospital admissions and sessions;
• Performing extensive, diversified activities in all aspects of cancer care;
• Accounting for half of all new hospital stays each year, and therefore traditionally playing the leading role;
• Carrying out the majority of paediatric oncology activity (82% of the total activity) and treating the majority of elderly patients;
• Performing more than 60% of chemotherapy/palliative care/metastasis treatment and accounting for 70% of medical stays;
• Finally, public institutions cover the entire country and guarantee citizens access to cancer care, particularly in the most rural departments; public provision meeting the needs throughout the country.

THE FHF SUPPORTS AND PROMOTES THE ROLE OF ALL ITS PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS IN ALL ASPECTS OF CANCER CARE, WITH THE SUPPORT OF ITS FHF CANCER COMMITTEE, BY:

• Coordinating an extensive network of medical, nursing and administrative professionals in the field of oncology in France;
• Working with its network to develop oncology pathways and strategy at the regional level, in conjunction with our experts and regional delegations;
• Producing regular contributions and analyses based on FHF data for its institutions in order to support them in their decisions and strategy;
• Contributing regularly and directly to the recommendations produced at national level and for crisis management to the crisis cells;
• Investing in the work carried out by institutional and non-profit actors in oncology.
